Love God Love People Change the World
Our Core Values
View of God - We value a Biblical view of God. He is holy, sovereign, gracious and loving. Words can not describe how great He is. He is bigger and greater than we can even imagine, yet we are committed to spending our lives getting to know Him more and helping others know Him. We believe in and teach the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all things. He cannot be embraced as Savior if he is not recognized as Lord. When making decisions, we try to constantly ask, "What would bring God the most glory?" ( I Cor. 10:31)
Authority - We value a Biblical view of authority. Because the Bible is God's Word, it is authoritative. We believe the Bible teaches that the church should be led and cared for by godly men (elders) who meet the qualifications of I Timothy 3:1-7, and Titus 1:5-9. These men are responsible for the oversight of the church, to protect it from false doctrine, (Acts 20:17,28-30), and to keep it pure by exercising church discipline (as outlined in Matthew 18:15-17). When making decisions, we try to constantly ask "What does the Bible have to say about this issue?"
Love - We are committed to following the great commandments found in Matthew 22:34-40. We want to love God with everything we have and are, and we want to love others in such a way that they see how great God is. When making decisions we try to constantly ask "What is the most loving thing to do?"
Understanding - We value each individual's right and responsibility to understand who God is for themselves. We encourage people to study God's Word on their own and to test every teaching and activity with the truth of Scripture. We do not want people to blindly follow tradition, but to constantly ask, "What does the Bible teach about this issue I'm facing?" (II Timothy 2:15)
Evangelism - We value the great commission (Matthew 28:18-20). We are committed to obeying this command from our Lord. We believe it is our responsibility to share the gospel with every person we possibly can. We work to equip every person at Providence with the tools and knowledge necessary to lead their friends and family into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. We believe that the only way to really change the world is by introducing people to Christ and watching Him change their hearts. We try to constantly ask, "How is this helping to share the gospel with the world?"
